sade j. abiodun (any pronouns) is a multidisciplinary scholar, artist, and storyeller of nigerian and south african descent. sade graduated from duke university in 2018 with distinction in neuroscience, and they are currently a graduate student at the princeton neuroscience institute, where they study neurocinematics (the neuroscience of visual media).

from holding multiple citizenships to having one too many middle names, sade has had a lifelong passion for all things curiously indecisive, and frequently finds themself traversing time:space boundaries to simultaneously explore creative, intellectual, and internal worlds.

their artistic practice is grounded in cerebral, multilayered storytelling, employing various modalities (music, movement, visual texture) to build narrative worlds.

their academic practice spans cognitive research, aesthetic theory, neuroethics, and metascience, exploring and challenging historical, systemic, and epistemological constructs to better understand how we perceive (and shape) subjective narratives around reality.

these themes are paralleled in their current focus on neurocinematics, the neuroscience of film. sade seeks to understand the interplay between the emotional, visual, and temporal dynamics of media and the mind.

sade’s film work (including their debut short, Godspeed) has been featured in film festivals and media platforms, including FREE THE WORK, NOW Gallery, and Directors Notes (see press for more). sade has also had multiple works (including other visual art, installations, sonic performances, and poetry) published and featured across academic journals, independent zines, and gallery exhibitions. their most recent creative project — an experimental archive entitled AMPERS&ND — has been developed through several selective storyteller residencies (domestic and international).

sade's creative and intellectual identities are intrinsically interwoven. they were recently featured as the ‘future of neuroscience’ by the society for neuroscience for their work bridging the worlds of film and neuroscience. sade frequently discusses their respective and overlapping interests at conferences, workshops, and on podcasts (and even has their own), and has consulted on projects for numerous organizations across the realms of art, media, science, and technology, including HBO, MARNI, Pathos Labs, Google Deepmind, and NFFTY.

sade is a firm believer that representation and inclusivity go beyond having a ‘diverse’ face in the classroom or writers' room, it begins with asking why the room exists in the first place.

they hope to continue bridging the gap between these rooms, these 'worlds', and foster collaboration, conversation, and community beyond the limitations of (social, intellectual, or temporal) hierarchies.

in their (nonexistent) spare time, you can find sade knitting by lakes, pondering over time, or explaining film theory to their cats.
